It’s been about a month since I began frequenting this place. I have to say that things have improved since that first visit. I’ve been there twice more: once to dine in and the other for take out. Now, when I visit at lunch, the place is packed! Wow~ I must have gone on a really slow day the first time around, or people have just recently discovered the place. I want to believe the latter… as a result of my review! =PAnyhow, I’ve now tried the Bulgogi which was good. I liked that they added cabbage to the dish along with the normal onion and green onion. It’s perfect when dipped in Sriracha sauce! The Soondae was a no-go for me. Too rubbery and the stuffing consisted of noodles, and well, noodles. Plus, there was an odd scent that was quite bothersome, which almost resembled a stale smell… if you could imagine that. My friend had the Gamjatang which was okay. Let me just say, there is A LOT of meat in this Gamjatang! I had the Nak Ji Dolsot which was pretty good~ I love spicy foods and this dish hit the spot for me! Also, they give you more banchan with take-out, now~ I was glad to see that! They have now up’d it to 4 banchans. Pretty darn good for take out!!!
All in all, I will be returning to sample the other offerings…

So I finally visited Ko Hyang Restaurant. I spotted the place about a year ago as I was leaving the gym after a long, hard workout session. My stomach began to growl intensely, so I sped up to pass the place as quickly as I could. I was in the clear… but not really… it was always in the back of my mind.
I was really craving Korean today. I work in Reston, and the closest Korean restaurant is in Vienna, Fairfax or Centreville… then a lightbulb lit up in my head and I remembered the small, hole-in-the-wall joint in the middle of a commercial/industrial business park next to my gym. After a few google searches, I found it! I placed an order of Bibimbap for take-out and off I was.
When I arrived, the place was empty, except for a table of 3 gentlemen. It was 12:30pm on a Friday afternoon during peak hour. The place wasn’t the most visually appealing. It was a dark, large room with seating for about 40 and reminded me of a cafeteria. A middle-aged woman greeted me and rang me up. $8 and some change… about average.
The food itself wasn’t great, but I was happy to have Korean in my stomach. I could tell the rice was either old or from the bottom of the pot. It was sticky and hard and packaged under all the veggies, probably to hide its appearance. It was served with Kimchi, Ggakdoogi and Miso soup. In the end, it was enough to satiate my cravings for a Korean meal.
