Whiskey MICHEL COUVREUR – Overaged Malt Whiskey – 43%
The Overaged is a medium peaty blended malt aged in Oloroso sherry casks. We do not know the different distilleries involved, as always with Les Couvreurs, but some of the whiskeys involved in its blending are over 20 years old, hence the “Overaged”. All the whiskeys present in the blend have aged in Pedro Ximenez barrels.
The nose starts with toasted wood, which brings its share of spices with cumin. A beautiful floral note then arrives accompanied by peat. The latter drags in its wake a note of tobacco which occurs just after the raisins bring a little fruitiness.
On the palate, we find the very oily and syrupy texture usual for Couvreurs. We find the wood and its spices entry. It is more fruity than the nose with still raisins but also plums and a discreet hint of oranges. The peat smoke is then recalled to our fond memories with a touch of honey.
The finish is long, on peat, pepper and cocoa.

TASTING NOTE
Fragrance of dried flowers, flaxen tobacco, sherry wine, fat almond, a little smoked. Fruity, powerful and long in the mouth. Aimed at a balance between new pure young malts and fathomless maturity of older ones.
End of mouth: sherry roundness enhanced by a slightly smoked. Fabulous nice balance between the nervous young single malts and the mellow olders.
To be preferably consumed chilled.

About the producer
Michel Couvreur whisky’s style is acquired by years of long contact with Sherry or other different impregnated wine casks. Now to what makes them so unique: the cellars. Tucked away in a little village, Bouze-lès- Beaune, halfway between Andalusia and Scotland, they look like a cave which is 15 metres deep with some 150 metres of galleries dug in limestone but giving humidity, silence, calm and depth. A choice of cask and a delicate dance of maturation between dry and damp places, Michel Couvreur whiskies are incredibly
flavourful, intense and soft all at the same time. Style and nobility are acquired following many years of ageing.
What makes Michel Couvreur’s Whiskies so special is not the distilled base product but the choice of barrels they have been selecting. They keep a very special attention to the choice of barrel, spending a lot of time and money looking for the most unique barrels down all over Europe.
